Would be pretty disappointed in him if he left prior to the conference championship game (if we’re in). And obviously would be a massive blow to CFP chances because the committee would absolutely pass over us if the situation presented itself.
Am already preparing for a screwjob out of the Playoffs, even if in, and winning, the AAC, as this user, to be honest, did not expect to be in the Playoff picture before this season began, but still expected an above 8-win season, even double-digits with 10, but they've surpassed even this user's own expectations with, presumably, with a win this Friday, 11 wins, but thought a Playoff spot was/is still going to be about 2 seasons away.
Am hopeful that the Head Coaching staff and the "Triplets" on the field ALL return for next season, because winning at Indiana in Week 0 to kick-off next season, with the lights as bright as they've ever been for UNT, perhaps even more so than with an American Title Game/Championship, given how rigged the FBS is, would be "the" statement win for this program in its history and be something to build on for a bid for the Playoffs next postseason, especially if Indy loses some pieces of their own!
He wanted and wants to coach in Texas, so, am still hopeful he's anti-state-of-Oklahoma. To be paid $5mill to, likely, fail at OSU in the bottom of a new Big 12 would hurt this user's pride and would prefer to stay at UNT and make a fraction of that, if it means succeeding and elevating the program. It would also set a precedent that he's a "prostitute"/"mercenary"/"status-climber", a la TomHermann and possibly SteveSarkisian, and they never won anything significant as Head Coaches! That "stink" would follow him and probably give cause-for-pause to not hire him in the future after Okie State is done with him! It's basic relationship logic: if he/she is willing to cheat on their girlfriend or boyfriend with yuh.....then they're also willing to cheat on yrself with someone else! That shows a lack of loyalty, and there are some things more important than straight-up money, at least in the immediate timeframe!
This is pretty pessimistic given that boosters (Rex Glendenning et. al.) have already ensured Morris’ salary will be tripled on top providing additional money for the players. Time will tell but I think Eric sticks around longer.
That’s fair, though with everything in mind, I still don’t think OSU has a chance. Yet.
I just don’t see Eric leaving such a strong position as the best G5 team for a last place Big 12 team (currently). It would be different for say Oklahoma or Tech, obviously.
This is good. My guesstimate is that people are underrating the quality of the OSU facilities and support.
I think they are making a big swing and it is working. I think Morris is gone. I would hate it if it means our AAC/CFP hopes are affected but I don't mind Morris taking the best opportunity for him and his family

I can’t imagine he would leave with an AC Championship game and a CFP birth possibility left to play for.

I noted the boosters are trying to raise his salary in the piece — but the pay cut Mike Gundy took put him at 6.75 MM per year.
Again, the real draw is resources. In the piece I noted you can go line for line and OSU has a better whatever.
Stadium?
Athletic offices?
Fan support?
Budget?
NIL commitment?
Recent history?
Booster depth and breadth?
Now, beyond that you could make the argument that NT is best-in-class and that is better than being mid-tier in the Big 12.
But again these guys are competitive and IMHO that won’t stop him.

^this article summarizes where I’m coming from.
Thanks for posting about this. We can all agree this is a super exciting time to be a Mean Green fan. I haven’t been into sports this much in 10yrs.
GMGMF!

the fact he wasn't wearing NT gear in his press conference was telling.
