Happy Thanksgiving!
It’s easy to point to the football season and say “that’s what I am thankful for” and while that is true, I’m thankful for everyone I have encountered and made friends with since I first enrolled in school way back when.
I’ve always felt that college was less a thing that happened to you than a thing you engaged with. It’s the people, not the paper.
I have life long friends thanks to my time at North Texas.
I started writing MGN as an offshoot of my personal blog while working at Golden Triangle Mall during the summer. I am thankful for all the people who have read it, the people who have become my friends because of it, and the ones I will meet because of it.
Being grateful is an intentional act. I’ve learned that in my time as a father. I had to teach my children to say “thanks” and I have found that doing so builds a habit of thinking of things to say “thank you” for.
For me, the obvious things: My family, my job, health, situation, and all that are important to me. However, I am also thankful for the things that have sucked. The things that in the moment sure felt like bad luck. I’m still here and I have some wisdom for having endured them.
I hope you and yours are enjoying this day. Be intentional and focused with your gratitude.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Aww, thanks for being thankful and the post, and hard work that's been done on this substack for quite some time!
Am also of the mindset that college isn't what it may be cracked up to be by the usual suspects in one's life, as this user hated most-all of their time across two universities, for various reasons from social-and-professional expectations not being met, to a lack of sleep, to harassment, to a broken down vehicle, etc..
Am in-agreement that the college degree doesn't mean much-anything, at least "value is subjective in the eyes of the consumer"/"beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Where did yuh work at in the Golden Triangle Mall, again? Have been there, several times. A close, old friend of muh second-brother worked at the bookstore in there for awhile.
Happy Thanksgiving!
