Funnily enough, about a year, maybe two years ago, or thereabouts, this user and their father went up north to Pennsylvania (where they're from) and decided to venture out past the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton valley and towards Tunkhannock/Towanda, and at the "Red Apple Antiques" building, there was, strangely (and perhaps sweetly) enough, a UNT yearbook, for sale, from the year 2000 (IIRC, it was 2000-2001). It was, surprisingly, in very good condition!
It was almost entirely in black-and-white (or was, entirely, in black-and-white), which this reader didn't care for. It also had a plethora of pictures and write-ups of various....left-liberal student organizations, compared to like, one photo of a Young Republicans organization, maybe (hardly remember at this point).
Can recall some photos of the parade down past the bar scene, off-campus. Liked attending that when this user was on-campus. Then they, intermittently, stopped doing it. They still do the parade, today, right? Hope so.
It seems that DarrellDickey fella, at HC, seemed to have a rough start to his tenure (whoever put their schedules together was an idiot or biased against UNT, because it seemed like they played some seven away games, many of which back-to-back-to-back, and only had five home games, and those away games were largely against "blue-bloods"), but put something pretty good together after a few years, and PatrickCobbs was great!
So, who here....or on "that other board"....did this belong to and moved to "NEPA" and is letting an antique shop try and sell it? =)
I do think fun is chicken or the egg. We did the stone cold celly last year and no one cared. But, this year we’re good, and I think fun things help because there’s stuff to share on socials and get the brand out there.
yeah to me that stuff only matters if you win. Uniforms are cool if you win (a big reason Oregon’s uniforms were a big deal back during Chip Kelly’s day was that they were a good squad), and all the rest only comes from winning.
But you are right that building culture that helps you win comes from doing a thing. So a fun celebration helps build the culture that leads to winning and the thing becomes popular.
As someone who went to grade school in the Mid-Atlantic region, even there, there was a huge fascination with Oregon's changing of their uniforms in that....2011-2012 era, even before MarcusMariota took them to "The Promised Land", they were still a good-to-great team. Kids would hop on the computer, in front of the teacher(s), in class, and marvel at their various shiny new uniform combinations.
Am a fan of the SCSA celebration, here. It's the little things that makes life worth living, it's the little things like that that can definitely change/improve "the culture", however one may quantify that! Definitely a "chicken-or-the-egg" discussion of which helps which, or starts which.
* Another key defensive measure besides yds/carry, ours being 4.28 yds/carry is stop rate & N Texas is 92nd of 136 FPS teams. 2.46 pts/ drive. TX Tech is tops w’ 0.96. Top third would qualify for ave which seemed to be the preseason goal; Be average on D.
Yeah the run defense has been poor the last two weeks and the second half vs usf in particular.
I think the turnovers have helped a ton there, and while that is not as sustainable (fumbles are basically luck) I would rather be lucky than good.
NT had such a run heavy opponent list the first half of the season. With the exception of Navy, I’m not too scared of anyone else. A chance to get back to average, maybe.
So, is this to say that, overall, minus the USF game, perhaps, The Mean Green are turning great running teams/running-back players back, to where they're only getting about half of their production that they normally get this season?
When is SkylarCassity getting a statue? Dude comes in at 29 years old, with Sam Houston State transfers and a Wyoming transfer, and turns a....130-something ranked "defense" into the top-scoring defense in college football (at least going into the last week)!
