Just thought this MGN/MG fan would share this link to PFN's College Football Predictor. They, currently, as of this writing, have UNT, at 8-4, in a three-way tie for third-place in The American, in-between Memphis and UAB, with Tulane and USF atop at 10-2 and 9-3, respectively (have to disagree with this, but it's close enough and anyways guess with how the P-SIX has been doing thus far).
They have a FIVE-way tie for second-place in the ACC, with FSU atop at 10-2.
They show the SEC as a veritable LOGJAM with OLE MISS atop at 11-1, Texas A&M also at 11-1, VANDY and UTENN at 10-2, and UT and OU at 9-3. This.....cannot, conceivably, happen this season and at least two and maybe three or four of these teams will miss the playoffs.
TyH's PSU, at 11-1, is shown atop the Big Ten and no longer a mere "bridesmaid"! IOWA is at 10-2, with a three-way tie for third-place in the Big Ten, led by ILL.
They have ISU atop at 11-1, all alone, followed by TTU and BYU, tied for second-place, and UCF at third.
ND finishes 6-6 ahead of UCONN.
OHIO is atop the MAC at 9-3 followed by TOL and BGU, both at 8-4.
They have Delaware atop CUSA at 8-4...followed by WKU at 7-5....tied with four others with the same record. (Don't believe this one whatsoever.....)
The MWC looks to be cannibalizing itself in old PAC-12 fashion, with SJSU atop at 9-3, but tied with FRES and UNLV, followed by Boise. Am in-agreement no MWC is making the playoffs this postseason, but this looks weird.
JMU holds steady atop the Sun Belt at 9-3.
....The Pac-2 are somehow listed at 4-8 with ORST edging ahead of WAZZU.
The American is...truly....without "P6"-tinted eyeglasses needed, poised to be the top so-called "G5" conference and with the best chance of landing at least one team in the playoffs this postseason....however unlikely that may due to both political pressure from the blue-bloods, and incoming logjams in a 12-team playoff format. If The American doesn't cannibalize itself, it's conceivable, but if it does, it's in the favor of the "P4".
Yet ANOTHER NIL T-shirt/merchandise slogan idea to run with!

30:58 in, nah, see, this is the thing: Such non-blue-blood "P2-4" teams NEED to retain key players and coaches in this day and age and that's ALL IT REALLY TAKES to compete with said blue-bloods and even become one, one day! Don't give into the pessimism/left-brain-dominant cynicism (like some of those on that "other" Mean Green fan forum...)!
Nice interview! Definitely think it's well within the PROBABILITY that UNT is in a major bowl this postseason! GMG! Still trying to figure out which bowl that might be.....
Okay, have done some serious sleuthing around and have found the following:
San Diego State, Arkansas, Florida, UCF, Kansas State, South Alabama, Colorado, Louisiana, Boston College, FIU, Colorado State, Air Force, North Carolina, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Washington State, Appalachian State, Rutgers, New Mexico, and UTEP are all, as of this writing, projected by Athlon Sports to miss bowl games this postseason (am iffy on the UCF diss and maybe one-or-two more like a Colorado State/Air Force and/or Illinois).
There appear to be....thirteen bowl games that The American Conference teams can/will play in, this postseason, and.....
Athlon Sports, as of a few days ago, project UNT to play old CUSA foe, Old Dominion University, in The Boca Raton Bowl.
Am sure Mean Green fans would like a trip to Florida, but it's projected to be two days before Christmas, on December 23rd, and it's hard to see UNT playing "down" to an old CUSA foe at an old CUSA location (FAU's house, presumably). The Boca Raton bowl, in this scenario, is not nearly as prestigious of a bowl that UNT and/or The American Champion is going to play in this postseason, even if it's not a playoff game. This prediction is only possible if ODU remains mediocre and UNT falters down the stretch to....say....an 8-4-ish record.
There's The First Responder Bowl on the 26th that they project Syracuse vs. Fresno State....a team that upset CLEM, like Syracuse, is closer to the type of competition UNT should be facing this postseason, if not better.
The Military Bowl on the 27th is projected to be Duke vs. Navy. Think UNT is better than both, along with a handful of teams in the new AP Top 25.
The Fenway Bowl seems to be the "top" bowl for The American Conference, also on the 27th, that Athlon projects PITT vs. Tulane, the latter of which is projected to win The American by ProFootballNetwork's College Football Predictor, as of this writing.
SMU did play Boston College in one of SMU's better years in recent history (a loss for them, in the rain, in Boston), and it was on major television at a decent time. This is what this fan is thinking UNT might be in this postseason, so....take note of hotel and flight ticket prices for the Boston area after Christmas!
There's The Birmingham Bowl on the 29th that Athlon projects UVA vs. MISS ST. This is a weird one. Chan-WOW is doing okay for UVA, but hasn't hit his ceiling, yet, and UVA has been damaged goods for a loooong time and the floor can still fall-out beneath them. This weekend's match-up against a rebounding FSU will be quite telling. Chan-WOW won't, likely, be able to play as great as he did at UNT last season at UVA, due to less weapons, worse coaching, and the fact that he's almost crippled. MISS ST. may not even be in this equation at all!
There's The Independence Bowl on the 30th that they project CAL vs. Cincinnati. Pass. Can't see Cincy even making a bowl this season, and if they do, it's hard to see them even facing a bowl game of this caliber against a CAL team that could finish a bit better than them.
There's the Armed Forces Bowl on January 2nd that Athlon projects Cougar High vs. ARMY. This match-up is weird AF. HOU could win a couple more games this season in their conference but that's their ceiling and ARMY would likely finish better than them. Is this a battle of a 6th/7th-place Big 12 team vs. a 3rd-or-4th-place AAC team?
Curiously enough, Athlon Sports has USF projected to be the 12th best team and in the Playoffs....against Miami at #5. Am iffy on MIAMI maintaining a middle-to-high ranking in the playoffs this season and think they are prime for a let-down spot against a GTech and/or FSU. FSU beating 'bama is nice, but it was Week One and this viewer trusts GTech's QB and coach more than FSU at the moment, so....IF....IF UNT makes the playoffs THIS postseason, likely as the sole "G5" (P6, people) representative, and it's a 12 vs. a 5, then it'd be a tough match-up against a legitimate playoff dark-horse in GTech.
They also have Indiana in the playoffs, which is very hard to see. Indiana has to drop-out at some point...soon.
IF it's not the playoffs....UNT could play as the first-or-second-best American team against the second-or-third-best ACC team in Boston, and that'd, presumably, be whomever is the worst of Miami, FSU, or GTech. Hard to see UNT beating a Miami or GTech, but beating FSU (whom UNT is actually undefeated against) in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl would be...."spicy" (pun intended)! SUCCEED WHERE SMU FAILED!!! GMG!
